Inspecting the Experimental Ranch
In 2017, we entered into a collaboration with Sichuan Agricultural University to finance a farmer at Bixi Township of Peng’an County to build a ranch on a piece of wasteland.
With our technical and financial aid in the past year, the farmer, Mr He, set up a co-operative society with four families in the village. Mr He became chairman of the co-operative society and let 12 poor families join in, using their labour instead of money as investment. Thus the ranch is run by 17 families. In addition to earning dividend, they have created employment opportunities by letting the less able villagers take part in growing grass.
Chairman He has some 80 sheep and more than 10 cows now. He intends to invest the profits from selling the sheep in the co-operative society and will buy more cows when funds build up.
Mr He has his own view on the future of the ranch and appears to be an expert when we talked to him.
The chief of Bixi Township praised him for his generosity in sharing experience with other villagers, many of whom interested in following his footsteps. Mr He thanked us time and again for our help and support, while we take comfort in his achievements and in setting an example for others to follow.
