Although we have not been able to do on-site visits for three years, our work has not ceased.

This walnut planting demonstration farm in Shanyang County, Shangluo, is a project with the Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University which began last year.  This year, the project has been selected by the Shaanxi Provincial Office of Overseas NGOs for evaluation.

 Hong Kong Yellow Earth Foundation and Northwest A&F University Cooperate to Develop Green Agricultural Project

Since the beginning of this year, the Hong Kong NGO Yellow Earth Foundation Ltd has, through filing record on its provisional activities, reported its cooperation with the Northwest University of Agriculture and Forestry Technology to carry out a project on the application and promotion of agricultural technology in Shangluo, Shaanxi Province.  This project has played a beneficial role in promoting the development of the local agricultural industry and guiding farmers to increase their income and become rich.

Shanyang County in Shangluo, Shaanxi Province, is located in the hinterland of the Qinling Mountains.  It has all along been restricted by the natural environment of the mountainous area, to the disadvantage of the local economic development.  However, the unique geographical conditions of this place are especially favourable for growing walnuts.  In order to further promote the development of the local walnut industry and enrich the resources of walnut planting varieties, the Hong Kong Yellow Earth Foundation Ltd and Northwest A&F University have launched a project on the application and promotion of high-yield cultivation technology for red flesh walnuts in the local area.  The project introduces a new variety of red flesh walnuts with very high nutritional and economic values.  Through setting up a demonstration and promotion farm, they used the “demonstrate and lead” model to provide the new walnut strains and technological advice so as to guide local villagers to plant red flesh walnuts.  The project provides all-round support in technology, management, capital, and marketing for the upgrading of the local walnut industry, and technical training related to red flesh walnut for villagers.

At present, the 50-acre demonstration farm in the first phase of the project has been successfully completed, and all walnut seedlings have been planted.  The overall project is progressing smoothly. This will play a positive role in further improving the local walnut industry chain, raising the yield and quality of walnuts, and increasing the farmers’ income. The Yellow Earth Foundation’s 100 sponsored students from Minxian No. 1 Middle School took the university entrance examination this year.  We will continue to sponsor those students who are successfully admitted to university.  On 22 June, the eve of the release of the entrance examination, we arranged with the school to hold an online briefing session with these students whom we have not had the opportunity to meet so far. We explained to them the mission of  Yellow Earth Foundation, and the criteria for disbursement of the university bursaries.  We also urged them to pass on the Yellow Earth Foundation spirit, namely, that of gratitude, returning good acts and be an upright person.

In January 2022, the fifth wave of COVID-19 disease broke out in Hong Kong and the pandemic was very severe.  People were in panic and in a grim mood.

YEF students from Dingxi No. 1 Secondary School in Gansu Province learned about the situation in Hong Kong and sent their well wishes to us:

“The pandemic will be  over soon, and victory is on its way.  We wish you all well and safe.  We are praying for you here in Dingxi, Gansu.  Keep going!  Keep going!  Keep going! ”

Since the beginning of 2022, the  COVID-19  pandemic is very severe in Hong Kong.  YEF students from Guyuan No. 5 Secondary School in Ningxia Province learned about our situation and sent their greetings to uncles and aunts in Hong Kong:

“Let’s work together to overcome the difficulties！Keep going!  Keep going!  Keep going!”

Mirage Space at Central Market is carrying out a charity sale to raise funds for Yellow Earth Foundation (YEF).   Income from sales of three items of animal shaped door stop/book ends will be donated to YEF to help improve the livelihoods of peasants in the remote mountainous regions in China.

The three cute animal styled door stop/book ends are of original designs of Hong Kong designers, produced with natural cotton materials and filled with glass beads.  They are of high quality and durability.  The large ones are about 24cm in height, about 1.5kg in weight and  priced at $388.  The small ones are of about 15cm in height, about 0.6 kg in weight and priced at $218.
