Water Pipe Project at Manwa Township
Manwa Township is a dry mountainous area situated at the northeast of Lintao County. Since 2007, the county government has moved 189 absolutely poor families under Categories 1 and 2 and those with special hardships to a resettlement area for easy provision of support to them. The area has been named Manwa Village. The government can now focus on implementing measures to help the poor, but only up to providing the very basic needs. A member of one of the households we visited had his right limbs amputated following an accident. While the government has provided him with a house, there have been no means to furnish it. Mains will soon be laid in Manwa Township under a water diversion project. Pipes to connect supply to households must be laid to take advantage of the project in progress or there will never be a chance to do so. The 189 households are in dire need for direct water supply and the financial assistance needed is RMB330,000. Philanthropists may make donations as an individual or an organisation. A plaque will be erected in the village on completion of the works to commemorate the kind acts.
