Last year, more than 100 students who have been receiving financial assistance from YEF graduate from Longxi No. 1 Secondary School with exceedingly good performance at University Entrance Examinations. Of them, 91 passed the examinations and 84 eventually made it to universities, many at medical schools and other professional faculties. In Dingxi No. 1 Secondary School, 14 of the 39 students sitting the examinations have been enrolled into universities. Every student entering university received an award from YEF’s Mai Luo Run Wo Scholarship. YEF continues to assist 100 students in each school every year. On May 26, we visited Longxi No. 1 Secondary School to distribute scholarships to 100 new students. We also visited Dingxi No. 1 Secondary School to talk to student representatives. The students gave us a handicraft unique to Lanshou — fragrant embroidered sachets. They also tie a five-colour string bracelet on us as a sign of good luck. We gave them woolen scarves in return.
