Inspection of Proposed Water Pipe Projects

Good progress has been made on a project funded by YEF to supply water to 313 households in Heijiacha Village of Tonganyi Town. Water supply will begin in next September. As water is the source of life, YEF will continue to fund other, similar projects. We have studied the situation in Luyuan Village and Qinqi Township, both in Weiyuan County, and found the latter particularly harsh. Both places are covered by the Central Government’s project to divert water from the Tao River. The Waterworks Bureau has built a large water pump and reservoir to transport water from the Tao River uphill. However. each village has to meet the cost for bringing water from the reservoir to their doors. This is difficult for the farmers. It had taken a lot of effort and resources to bring water uphill, and it would be a great waste if the downhill section could not be connected. On the day of our visit, there is a water wagon delivering supply to the village and each villager has to pay between RMB20 and RMB50 to fill up the containers. They then pull the containers home to fill the water tank in front of their houses. We want to help the farmers by laying pipes into their houses. Each of these “water pipe” projects requires funding between RMB400,000 to RMB600,000. We need your earnest donation to help the farmers enjoy tap water.
