We visited Year 1 students of Dingxi Secondary School on 11 July.  All the students we sponsor are peasant children. Apart from giving out stationery items to them we also give out new drought-resistant soy bean seeds to them.  These seeds were developed by YEF’s advisors, Professor Lam Hon Ming of CUHK and Professor Zhang Guohong of Gansu Agriculture and Science Institute.  Due to our long term relationship with the scientists, we were able to buy the seeds at cost for giving out to the farmers.  We even invited the two advisers to join our gathering and give a talk to our students and their parents on the special qualities of the new species.  The event enabled poor farmers to enjoy the fruits of scientific research.
