There is a custom in our village to throw a banquet for children who are admitted to university. My younger brother has got 608 points in the University Entrance Examination this year, the best so far, and becomes the champion in our village. On the day of preparation for the banquet, it rains all the time, but the sun comes out in the evening to add joys to the occasion. The food is not particularly sumptuous but we are very happy to be together. The little boy next door plays the cucurbits for us and instantly everyone becomes the audience.
After the heavy rain, the blue sky is clear and bright, like a large piece of glass washed with water. There is a thick smell of soil in the air, cordial and refreshing, as if proclaiming: everything will be getting better and better!

The green fields, light blue sky, and magnificent sunset together make up a dazzling picture…
That is the scenery of my hometown, and it is also the most beautiful and irreplaceable picture scroll in my mind. No matter where I am in the future, it will be an eternal imprint in my soul, in an irreplaceable manner. We all change a lot as we grow, but the love for hometown deep in the heart will not change. Wherever I go, I believe hometown will stay by me in some form.
Soon, I will travel far like a wanderer. Oh, my beautiful hometown, how can I leave you? How can I leave my family who have grown in your arms? But I must leave you to pursue my dream. My hometown, may you be forever beautiful, and may you keep me long!

My home is in Dian Suo Village, Madeng Town, Jianchuan County, Dali Prefecture, Yunnan Province. These goats are given to every household by the Poverty Alleviation Office. When feeding them, I am afraid they may bite my hand. But they are actually very gentle when eating the corn from my hand.
In the past, poverty alleviation in rural areas was through direct disbursement of funds. But later on, goats were given away and, as they propagated, they would lift villagers out of poverty. This is like “giving someone a fish is not as good as teaching someone how to fish”. When the goats are delivered, the office sent technical staff with relevant knowledge to tell the villagers how to breed. But some goats fall ill in two days and die. This is indeed a great loss, so it has strengthened my determination to become a veterinarian.

Last summer vacation, I took up an internship on a paddy-crayfish farm in Chengdu. This picture shows the edge of a field, where crayfish are raised. The idea is to dig a ditch about two metres deep at the side of a field. The centre of the field is for growing rice and the ditch for crayfish. This is a mode of paddy-crayfish farming. There are nets along the ditch, which you can lift from a boat when catching the crayfish. I was badly tanned and my roommate almost could not recognise me when I returned from the internshipThis summer, I have been doing experiments and preparing for postgraduate entrance examinations at school, and did not go out. I miss the internship very much. Zhao Zhangjie – Sichuan Agricultural University

As an agricultural university, we plant rice outside the library on the campus every year. When the rice is harvested, we very often plant rapeseed flowers so that the land carries life throughout the year.
Our university loves to grow flowers. Most of the flowers bloom in spring – red, yellow, vibrant and bright. Flowers of all kinds and in all varieties can be seen on all paths from the dormitory to classrooms.
But when most flowers bloomed this year, we were staying at home and were unable to smell their fragrance and appreciate their beauty as we did in previous years.
Then summer vacation came. We had to rehearse the graduation laboratory tests. Before we had time to go home, school resumed.

Having learned that a good friend and I have both been admitted to universities in Lanzhou, I am in a very good mood. We pledge to meet up from time to time, so we don’t feel very sad at our departure.
As we bask in the warm afternoon sun, we pass by a small farmyard surrounded by willow trees. Unknowingly, I am attracted by a tree in front of the door, abundant in fruit. There is a trace of sweetness in the air. Casting my eyes far, the sight seems to fuse my mood into this sweetness. The sweetness of fruit and vegetables, the beauty of the scenery, and the company of friendship, all bring me huge joys with lasting memory…

During the summer vacation, I join my sister and brother-in-law to visit Zhagana in Gannan – a place which, according to legend, was created and isolated from the world by god.
This magical and beautiful stone city is more than 30 kilometres away from the principal town of Diebu County. It is surrounded by high mountains where rocks are steep, tall and towering, hence the name of city. Zhagana means “stone gate” in Tibetan.
Here, villages are surrounded by mountains, golden barley glitters, the Bailong River runs powerfully, long canyons seem to have no exit, and houses are embedded in river valleys like jewels. All these give me countless, unimaginable shocks. The beautiful Zhagana fascinates everybody and makes you feel the unusual landscape and sophistication of the Tibetan people.

This is the evening scene of the street outside the gate of Sichuan Agricultural University.
The pandemic has delayed the exams from last term until now. After the exam two days ago, I went out for dinner with friends. I saw the flaming sunset, busy people, and the vibrant signs of life. Indeed the recovery from the pandemic is preciously difficult.
The smell of smoke from cooking fire can best sooth the mortal heart. This may sound commonplace but is pragmatic.

This is the scenery greeting us when I go for a walk with my parents. I can’t help recording the beautiful moment of the rapeseed field and the setting sun.
Time flies and I am now in the fourth year of university. In the first half of the year, I have stayed at home with my parents because of the epidemic. It seems that, for quite a while, I haven’t been together with my parents for such a long time.
As my father’s health is not very good, I often tell him to take a walk after meals so that he can live to the age 99! It has become a family habit to go for a walk after meals every day.
I have been away from home to study since high school, and I can only accompany my parents during the winter and summer vacations. During the current epidemic, I have stayed at home for about five months. Every day I accompany my parents for a walk after meals and cook a delicious meal for them. What a warm and blessful family!
