This is a photo taken when I get up early for running exercise in winter. Although it is difficult to get up so early, exercise has enhanced my physical fitness, which is good.

The most unforgettable thing in studying medicine is the huge amount of knowledge to be learnt, and to revise in exams. I have been very timid as a child, daring neither this nor that. Since arriving at university, I have been practising and gradually become bold.

I am still a novice and I need to learn more about medicine to become a good doctor.

I went up the Qinyan Tower in the misty rain. The mountains, fog and drizzle in the distance were entangled like a dream. The river is surging, and the sound of it beating the dyke is joined by human voices. My heart seems to be flowing afar with the river.

Apart from admiring the beautiful scenery, I am awestruck by the Dujiangyan Water Conservancy Project. The works more than 2,700 years ago still benefit local residents. I can’t help but be amazed by the wisdom of our ancestors.

These photos were taken in the summer vacation of 2018, when I took part in voluntary services. We went to Sanlitian Primary School in Bijie City, Guizhou Province. We brought to the children what we had experienced and learnt in the outside world over the years, hoping to open up their vision.

There were 14 of us and the voluntary service lasted for half a month. The teaching contents were not the usual language, math, or English. During the lessons we prepared introductory course on scientific experiments, historical knowledge outlines, Chinese traditional etiquette, cultures of various countries in the world, 3D printing and other seemingly magical, new technology. The purpose was to broaden the children’s horizons. We wanted to let them know that the world is vast and rich, and they have infinite possibilities to explore, as long as they study hard.

This is an experience which I will never forget in my life. I hope the students will have a firm goal in their future study – to look at the outside world.

Although the epidemic has eased, the school still implements enclosure management on students after school resumes. Many students cannot go out, so they have to buy things on-line, yet courier deliverymen cannot enter the school either. This afternoon, some students are waiting at the north gate of the school to pick up their orders. They look like parents waiting outside a kindergarten to collect their kids!

A lot of people, heat, slow courier delivery. Very apt description of current life experience! .

I will set off the day after tomorrow. Before leaving, I go to the Huangye Temple in our village with Grandpa to pray for blessing, as it was Niangniang’s birthday. Niangniang is the fifth daughter of the Queen Mother and, like Huangye, is the goddess who protects our village. Her birthday is on the 17th day of the 7th lunar month and every year the elders of high status in the village will sit in the temple. Grandpa is one of them.

To celebrate the birthday, every household must put some money into the merit box. At the same time, every household will burn incense to pray for blessing, good harvest in the coming year, or family happiness, etc.

The elders believe a lot. I just want to go with Grandpa to make him happy. I don’t really believe this. It may give me a bit of comfort too when I am in a foreign land.

Do you remember the school dance competition in Senior 1?

From short hair to long hair

From childlike faces to maturity

From coming across to knowing one another well

From Senior One to Senior Three

From staying together to parting

Thank you all for accompanying me these three years.

Encounters may not bear fruit

But the significance must be there

No matter what the future unfolds

Let us work really hard in our different paths

School resumes on September 11 and 12.  I return to school as a volunteer to pick up the junior brothers and sisters at the train station, and help them to report and register.

The senior brothers and sisters are very enthusiastic in helping the juniors in admission.

All the students carry lots of bags, big and small. Generally, girls always carry more luggage than boys when entering the school gates.

A bit embarrassing.

This is the corn planted with my family using dibbling method in early April, when I was home during the epidemic. This method means that the seeds have not been screened for germination before transplanting in the field. That is because both my parents have left to work elsewhere and Grandpa and Grandma are too old, so they don’t have the energy to set up sheds to nurse seedlings and turn the soil. Instead, they put corn seeds directly into dibbled holes in the soil.

Dibble planting makes many corn seeds unable to break through the soil. I make it a point to watch how many of them manage to break through the soil when jogging every morning.

This piece of land is slab soil, that is, the soil is very hard and difficult to maintain. But there are still a lot of corn sprouts. I feel very happy and satisfied fat the moment. No matter how bad the external environment is, it can’t stop them from breaking through the soil towards the sun. A little green will always bring people unlimited vitality and hope.

After graduation, I was recruited to the Xiangyang Locomotive Depot of Wuhan Railway Bureau. I went to Wuhan for training last month. Now I have signed in to the Xiangyang Locomotive Depot of Wuhan Railway Bureau.

This picture shows the Han River which passes through Xiangyang. Our dormitory is about 4 kilometres away from the river, and you can get there by riding a shared bicycle. The Han River is the largest tributary of the Yangtze River. Compared with the Yellow River, the Yangtze runs much more slowly.

During the training, a teacher said that Wuhan is now the safest city in the whole country. I feel so, too. During these days, I feel that the country’s comprehensive prevention and control of the corona virus is really strong. I once watched a prevention and control video made by the Wuhan Bureau. There were lots of heroic deeds in it and I was truly touched.

Since coming here, I have found that the food in this a southern city carries more northern flavour. I still enjoy noodles. In terms of weather, Xiangyang is much cooler than Wuhan, but still hotter than at home. Basically, my clothes get wet as soon as I go outdoors. I will get used to it.

My undergraduate degree is horticulture. In mid-June, during the epidemic, we returned to school for experiment lessons. The teacher gave us sunflower seeds. I planted them on the balcony of the bedroom. Recently, one of them finally bloomed. Seeing the sunflower planted by myself waving in the wind towards the sun like golden morning glow, I feel that the new day is full of infinite life and vitality!

This is my first time to grow sunflower. Sunflower is a crop in many places. As an ornamental species, this is only a small pot and is relatively short. Yet very beautiful. I like it very much
