High School Scholarship schemes

Since 2010, Yellow Earth Foundation (YEF) has been offering scholarships to children of peasant farmers who are admitted to high school to help them complete secondary education.

The COVID-19 virus has been raging since 2020, affecting the whole world.  Yellow Earth Foundation is therefore unable to visit the Mainland for two years.  Yet the work of aiding high school students and undergraduates has never stopped.

In 2021, apart from carrying on with subsidies for students of Minxian No. 1 Secondary School and Dingxi No. 1 secondary school, we have accepted the applications of 100 senior secondary one students from Guyuan No. 5 Secondary School.  They will receive subsidy for three years until they graduate from secondary school.

A donation of $4,500 would suffice to sponsor a secondary student from three years. Sponsors will receive letters from their students every year.

Bursaries for university students

Since 2016, YEF has been offering financial aid to assist peasants’ children through their four years’ university education.

In 2021, of the 50 YEF students from Dingxi No. 1 Secondary School, 49 of them successfully gained entry to a university.  10 of the more needy students have been awarded YEF’s university bursaries to help meet their living expenses for four years until they graduate from university.  The rest of the students are each given a one-off subsidy to tide them over the financial difficulties in the early university days.

For only $20,000, a philanthropist can sponsor an undergraduate for four years.  In addition to financial aid, YEF will organize activities for them from time to time.  Students will write to their sponsors every year to report their development.

Setting up a Demonstration Plantation

In 2021, we reached an agreement with the Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University of Shaanxi to fund a toon planting project.  Through transfer of skills by the university’s scientific research team, a demonstration farm will be set up in Langgao County of Shaanxi to cultivate the “Qinbahong” toon, a species rich in selenium and with high yield.  The project will demonstrate the method of cultivation of the newly bred “Qinbahong” toon, to provide the farmers with technical support and employment opportunities.  Through the promotion of “Qinbahong” toon, we aim to industrialise the planting process so as to raise the income of local farmers. The start-up budget of the project is 100,000 yuan, and we look froward to keen donations by philanthropists to achieve the goal of industrializing the project.

12th Anniversary of Yellow Earth Foundation

On 13 November 2009, the Yellow Earth Foundation (YEF) was officially registered as a charity.  In the summer of 2010, we began to launch services in Gansu and went up and down the mountains of Loess Plateau every year to inspect projects that needed funding.

In 2020, China achieved the goal of alleviating poverty.  YEF received commendation from the Gansu Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese to thank us as an active participating organisation in the “Gansu Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese Contributions to Poverty Alleviation” campaign.  The Gansu Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese invited us to continue to cooperate with them to follow up on poverty alleviation results and revitalize the rural economy.

The goal of YEF is to improve the livelihoods of farmers.  What we can do is trivial, yet our belief is, however insignificant a good deed might be, it should none-the-less not be abandoned, and we should take one more step whenever we can.

Thank you all for your support and encouragement. We hope that more people will   participate in our activities and join us in YEF’s efforts to advance with our country and move towards the new goal of revitalizing the economy.

The voice of YEF students

The YEF sponsored students have formed an alumni association.  In the morning of 13 November, some of the students saw our note on YEF’s 12th anniversary.  They immediately called on its members to produce a tweet “Thank you for being there all the way” to congratulate us.  It was completed within half a day, how efficient!  It was all self-motivated by the students and their greetings were sincere.  Members of YEF are deeply moved.

YEF is also grateful to our volunteers and sponsors who walked with us all along.  Thank you for your support!
